Garden Party Benefit for the Community Learning Center

In a former life I taught English as a foreign language, and although it’s no longer my career, I’ve stayed involved in the field by volunteering as a tutor at Cambridge’s Community Learning Center, and as a member of the board of the Friends of the Community Learning Center.

A division of Cambridge’s Department of Human Services, the CLC is a fantastic organization that provides adult basic education, literacy, ESOL and citizenship classes to Cambridge residents. The Center serves over 1,000 people a year, from more than 70 countries, enabling them to better integrate into the community and workforce. The Friends of the CLC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established to raise awareness of and funds for the CLC.

For the past four years, we’ve held an annual Garden Party as our big fundraising initiative for the Bridge to College Program. We’ve already raised close to $30,000 this year via ticket sales and sponsorships for the event, which is coming up this Sunday. However, because this year marks the 40th anniversary of the CLC, we’d like to see if we can bring that up to $40,000. You can help us reach this goal by buying tickets to attend ($60 each) or simply by donating. To do so, please get in touch with Mina Reddy at 617.349.6363 or mreddy@cambridgema.gov.
